Beautiful cameo style ring crafted in Sweden in 1947. It is made from 18 carats gold, set with a “cameo” surface picturing a silhouette of a woman looking to her left. The surface is handcrafted in a glass like material popularly used in the 1930 and 1940s.
The ring is fully hallmarked for Sweden, the year it was made (1947) and 18 carats gold. It’s in excellent condition, with small surface scratches consistent with its age.
Cameo rings have a rich history, dating back as far as the 2nd century BC. They are crafted by skilled artisans using a small engraving tool to form a raised image on a contrasting background. Cameos have been used as a symbol of power, status and wealth throughout the ages. They were in high fashion during the 1930-1940s, and versions of the cameo ring were made using glass and shells.
